My Leadership Philosophy
To me, social impact leadership involves an ability to create and ignite a vision, a focus on collaboration, and an emphasis on resilience. The first step to any social impact project is a vision. Creating a clear and concise vision statement that indicates what your project will address is key to starting an initiative. Equally, if not more important, is the ability to ignite this vision and communicate it with others. Social impact leaders must pack a vision statement with strong language and relay this vision with enthusiasm and passion to recruit others to their project. Another core principle of social impact leadership is collaboration. It’s not often that you see a strong, long-lasting social impact project completed by one person alone, which is why collaboration is crucial. Working together with other like-minded individuals will help fuel a project and increase the impact. For example, multiple mental health organizations collaborating with each other for an event will draw in two, if not three, times the people, increasing the impact and the amount of advocates there now are for mental health. The last core principle of social impact leadership is resilience. Starting a new initiative comes with both successes and setbacks and it is crucial that a leader reflects on what both of these mean. A special emphasis should be placed on self-reflection, as this allows leaders to analyze their strengths and weaknesses, and maintain a dynamic outlook on their leadership journey.
